The Ducati Desmosedici GP7 announced Ducati's arrival at the top of MotoGP. Built for the new 800cc era around a ferocious "Screamer" V4 engine, it was a machine that overwhelmed rivals on the straights but demanded a rider brave enough to master its raw handling. Casey Stoner did exactly that, using an instinctive, dirt-track-honed style to wrestle 10 race wins from the GP7 and deliver Ducati its first-ever MotoGP World Championship, taking the title by a commanding 125-point margin.
