Gold trim tends to expose a cheap pen, which is rather the point of putting it on this one: the Sentinel body is metal throughout, so the proportions and weight can carry it. Click-top action, and it takes the standard Sheaffer K-style ballpoint refill.
Sentinel has been in the Sheaffer catalogue in one form or another since the 1940s.
