Gold trim asks more of a pen than chrome does, and the 100 has the proportions to carry it. Gloss black lacquer runs the length of the brass barrel, framed by gold-tone plated appointments at the cap band, clip and tip - warmer and rather more traditional than the chrome-trimmed version, and the one most people reach for when the pen is meant as a gift.
Sheaffer has been building pens to this standard since Walter A. Sheaffer opened his workshop in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1913, and by 1920 was confident enough in them to launch the Lifetime pen at nearly three times a competitor's price. The White Dot that followed in 1924 remains on the cap crown of this one.
