The rollerball of the Sheaffer 100, finished in deep gloss black lacquer over a brass body with gold-tone plated appointments at the cap band, clip and collar. It is the most traditional-looking pen in the 100 range, and the one most often bought as a gift.

A rollerball earns its keep in the writing: liquid ink rather than paste, so the line comes out darker and wetter and needs almost no pressure to lay down. Much of the character of a fountain pen, with none of the filling or flushing. The brass body gives it the weight to stay steady through a long page, and the cap posts securely on the barrel.

On the cap crown is the Sheaffer White Dot, first applied in 1924 as the mark of a pen that had passed Walter Sheaffer's own inspection.
