Sheaffer VFM - Matt BLK FP F

Description

A metal-bodied fountain pen for well under a hundred dollars is a rarer thing than it should be, and the VFM has held that position for years. Matt black lacquer over a tapered metal barrel, bright nickel-plated trim, and a fine stainless steel nib that writes with a crisp, controlled line straight out of the box.

One practical detail worth knowing: unlike the rest of the Sheaffer range, the VFM takes standard international cartridges and converters rather than Sheaffer's own. That opens it up to an enormous range of inks from other makers, which makes it an unusually good pen to experiment with.

A sensible first fountain pen, and a perfectly respectable second one.
